  Is eye protection LCD or LED

  In today's digital age, people face electronic screens for a long time, and eye protection has become a highly concerned topic. Among screen types, LCD and LED are often compared to determine who is more eye friendly. Firstly, it should be clarified that the LED screen referred to here strictly refers to LCD screens with LED backlighting, as true self luminous LED screens (such as Micro LED and Mini LED) have not yet been widely popularized in the general consumer market.

  The LCD screen itself does not emit light, it relies on a backlight to illuminate the liquid crystal layer to display images. Traditional LCD backlight sources are mostly cold cathode fluorescent tubes (CCFLs), which contain harmful substances such as mercury and have relatively low luminous efficiency. With the development of technology, the mainstream LCD screens now use LED as the backlight source, namely LED-LCD screens. LED backlight sources have the advantages of high luminous efficiency, long lifespan, and no mercury content.

  From the perspective of blue light issues, both CCFL backlit LCDs and LED backlit LCDs exhibit blue light emission. However, LED backlighting can reduce the proportion of harmful blue light and make its spectrum closer to natural light by optimizing design and adopting more advanced fluorescent powder technology, thereby reducing eye damage. Compared to traditional CCFL backlighting, LED backlighting has more advantages in blue light control.

  In terms of dimming methods, LCD screens have two main dimming methods: PWM dimming and DC dimming. PWM dimming adjusts brightness by quickly switching the backlight source. At low brightness, due to insufficient switching frequency, it may cause flickering in the human eye, which can lead to eye fatigue, dryness, and other problems when viewed for a long time. DC dimming adjusts the brightness of the backlight source by changing the voltage, without producing flicker, making it more eye friendly. However, some LED-LCD screens use PWM dimming at low brightness levels in order to reduce costs, and users need to pay attention when choosing.

  with reasonable design and optimization, LED backlit LCD screens have certain advantages in terms of eye protection, but it still depends on factors such as the blue light ratio and dimming method of the screen. Consumers should pay attention to these key indicators when purchasing electronic products and choose a screen that is more suitable for their eyes.
